Sadly, our media reflexively support anything Israel claims and refrain from critical analysis of it.  There is a need for precisely the sort of corrective to bias that you suggest.

The problem is that nobody believes anything we or the Israelis say about such incidents.  And nobody can tell what the truth is.  So we are left to judge on the basis of circumstantial evidence.  That does not favor Israeli self-exculpation.  And even if it did, the presence of so many people at the hospital was the result of an Israeli effort to drive Gaza's population south and, if possible, into exile.  Only those inclined to believe whatever Israel says will give it the benefit of the doubt under these circumstances and, in politics, perception is reality.
